Elda is Spain's shoe making capital - The ancient city of Elda stands on the banks of the Vinalopó river, about 30 kilometres inland from Alicante and Costa Blanca beaches. With a population of 56,000, Elda is divided from its neighbouring town - Petrer, by just a single street - the houses on one side of the road belonging to Elda and on the other side, to Petrer.
