Ibiza property poised for summer take-off

With prices of villas, apartments and plots with planning permission at their lowest levels for a decade, the property market in Ibiza seems poised for take-off next month.
That’s when the summer schedule flights start from the UK and other parts of northern Europe, shuttling thousands of beach-bums and clubbers to this popular international jet-set holiday island.
This year there is even greater interest in the property market as buyers struggling in recent years to meet the traditional higher prices – caused by international demand and a rigid planning regime – have realised the recession has now brought prices down in their Des Res Ibiza.
Google-ranked number one source for property in Ibiza, PropertyInSpain.Net, has just listed hundreds of Summer Sale bargains from hard-pressed owners and from Spanish banks offering a record number of repossessed homes on the island. The website also has scores of “wait & see” buyers who viewed in previous years, couldn’t quite raise the asking price and now see their dream homes are within grasp after a wave of price cutting swept the island in the first quarter of 2010.
“There is an unprecedented interest in the Ibiza property scene, with a lot of re-inquiries from people who viewed, but couldn’t fund their property choices first time around. They now like our 2010 prices, some of which are 35% lower,” said Ibiza manager, Ben Walker.
He added: “Some of the best buys at the top end of the market are sea view plots with planning permission and a building licence where all the planning hassles and costs are out of the way. Local craftsmen builders, short of work during the recession years, are now happy to produce villa gems for less.”
