Golf Resort OK, First of 22 for Costa Azahar

By Kevin Barnett, 22 Dec 2005

The race to get Spain’s Costa Azahar into the international property market saw seaside resort Torreblanca shoot into an early lead when local planners approved a large-scale 472-acre seafront golf course plus holiday homes development.

The full meeting of Torreblanca Council unanimously adopted an historic agreement which will provide a landmark in the development of the resort as a prime tourist destination. With the final approval of the project to develop the "Doña Blanca Golf" scheme, Torreblanca will become the third municipality to have a golf course in the fast growing Costa del Azahar region.

Giving the OK for such an important development will put Torreblanca ahead of planned schemes in other neighbouring towns like Oropesa, Marina D’Or, Alcossebre and Benicassim. Another consortium led by Spain’s top golfer, Sergio Garcia is planning 18 new golf developments in the region and nearby Marina D’Or is building three.

Doña Blanca Golf development will cover a total area of 1,910,254 sq. metres (472 acres) including an 18-hole golf course covering 150 acres. There will be 245 detached properties, facing the sea and the golf course provide to provide a better quality of construction, 106 semi-detached houses, 132 residential terraced houses and 3,936 apartments.

Luxury hotels & shopping centres

The development will have three luxury hotels, shopping centres, tennis courts, football pitch and green areas. The golf club will also have all the Casa Club services, pitch and putt, putting green and driving range. When full the development will be able to accommodate more than 12,000 people. One of the important characteristics of this development is the construction of low density housing which is in accordance with sustainable development.

The council hopes that the company will soon put forward its scheme for dividing the land into plots so that the first stone in the Doña Blanca Golf can be laid before next summer, as the development scheme was also approved at the same time as the final adjudication.

Said Marcos Guillén, PropertyinSpain.Net Costa de Azahar´s coordinator: “This is a landmark development in terms of location and timing. Property in Spain is already marketing Marina D’Or and the first two new beachside developments in this growing resort and we expect to sign sales & marketing contracts for Doña Blanca Golf soon.”
