Quick Facts

Booming local economy fuelled by the property market, mainly British investment, that continues unabated.

Getting There

Alicante Aiport
Murcia Airport

That this area offers something for everyone has been proved over the last decade as foreign property buyers have transformed the local economy and created thriving residential communities in areas otherwise facing a bleak future as the traditional agricultural economy faded away.

Some critics point out there are so many Brits living, working and vacationing here that is has almost become a Croydon in the sun; while other pundits mention the ongoing regeneration, job creation and vastly improved infrastructure and essential facilities – provided by the strong British pound, matched with Euro grants.

Either way, the Brits love it and are here to stay, encouraging their families and friends to join them in their newfound, relaxed life in the sun.

There are new roads, schools, shopping malls and the most modern hospital in Spain, located in newly prosperous Torrevieja, the one-time fishing village. Many families from the UK and other countries have settled down in Torrevieja and satellite resorts like La Zenia, Cabo Roig, Campoamor and Torre de la Horadada springing up around the bay. They love the weather, the new promenade, revitalised squares and many additional facilities and amenities. They enjoy good beaches, sports and leisure and the shopping.

Much of what Torrevieja has achieved is being replicated up and down this section of the Costa. The beaches of Orihuela, stretching 15km southwards from Torrevieja has thriving residential tourism and increasing amenities in many resorts right up to the border with Murcia (Costa Calida). North from Torrevieja, La Mata’s fine beach has gained a fantastic boardwalk and a new lease of life, while dusty old La Marina, backing Blue Flag beaches, has transformed itself and spread into the seaview hills.

Guardamar del Segura is becoming elegant once again and adding many sports and recreational facilities for Spanish and new residents. The pine forest park is a delight, the marina has filled-up with boats of all sizes – but many locals have doubts about the new high rise condo’s lining the sleepy Rio Segura.

Up the coast, Santa Pola, is still a big fishing port, but increasingly turning to residential tourism for a brighter future. Alicante is a delightful city by-passed by 1,000s of families as they leave its airport and dash to their new homes, rented villas or hotels. Great beaches, marina, big hotels, department stores, craft shopping and excellent restaurants in the Old Quarter below the Moorish castle.

Property prices in Costa Blanca south range from €130,000 to the sky’s the limit. There is a wide choice of new and resale properties for every requirement and budget and scores of developers waiting to tempt the passing buyers…
